Program Decriptions for Kathi Plug Power Skate
POWERskate
The classes ages 4 through 11 years are full instruction of all the skills relating to hockey and ringette. Forward stride, backward skating, stops, turns, crossovers forward and backward. This is not a learn-to-skate program. The skater must be able to move forward minimally and able to get up from falling down. Power Skate levels 1-8 are done with full ice drills and skaters will work on skills in a group according to their skill level.
Full equipment, face cage, mouthguard and stick are mandatory for the sessions: A,B,C,D,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U
ELITE POWERskate
This class takes all of the skills learned in the above classes and now increases the endurance, proficiency of each skill and the strength of each stride. The Elite skater MUST be able to do forward and backward crossovers. The skater must have passed Level 6 or on a AA or AAA team. Full equipment, face cage, mouthguard and stick are mandatory for the sessions: D, Q, U.
RECskate Parent & Tot (2-6yrs)
RECskate Levels are taught. Parents must wear skates to accompany child on ice. Helmet with face cage is mandatory for sessions I & J.
RECskate Preschool (3-6yrs)
RECskate Levels are taught. Preschool signifies daytime programs. Parents providing they wear skates will be allowed on the ice with their child during Week 1 . Helmet with face cage is mandatory for sessions G & H.
RECskate Mini Power
Combination of RECskate and Powerskate skills are taught. Must have passed RECskate Silver Pre Level 1. Hockey skates and helmet with face cage is mandatory for session M.
Adult RECskate
RECskate Levels 1-7 are taught. All levels of skaters are welcome. The daytime sessions will be shared with RECskate classes but will be kept totally separate. Beginners are encouraged to wear any type of helmet. These sessions are K & L
Adult POWERskate
Designed for skaters that know how to skate but wish to improve their skating skills, speed, strength and endurance. Full equipment and stick are mandatory. These sessions are E, F,V
Instructor / Pupil ratio is 1/6 for all programs.
There are no makeup classes.
Program Descriptions for St. Catharines
Recreational Skate
RECskate Parent & Tot (2-6yrs)
RECskate Levels are taught. Parents must
wear skates to accompany child on ice. Helmet with face cage
is mandatory.
RECskate Preschool (3-6yrs)
RECskate Levels are taught. Preschool signifies
daytime programs. Parents providing
they wear skates will be allowed on the ice with their child
during Week 1 and 9 only. Helmet with face cage is mandatory.
RECskate (4-15yrs)
RECskate Levels 1-7 are taught.
Parents providing they wear skates will be allowed on the
ice on Week 1 only. Helmet with face cage is mandatory for
skaters 7 years and under.
RECskate Mini Power
Combination of RECskate and Powerskate
skills are taught. Must have passed RECskate Silver Pre Level
1. Hockey skates
and helmet with face cage is mandatory.
Jr. RECfigureskate
Must have passed RECskate Level 1. Figure
skates are mandatory.
Sr. RECfigureskate
Must have passed RECskate Level 7. Figure
skates are mandatory.
POWERskate
Poweskate Levels 1-8 are taught. This is
not a learn-to-skate program. Full equipment and stick are
mandatory except for Monday 4:10pm and 5pm. In these sessions
helmet with face cage are mandatory.
Adult RECskate

of skaters are welcome. The daytime sessions will be shared
with RECskate classes but will be kept totally separate. Beginners
are encouraged to wear a helmet.
Adult POWERskate

SPECIAL NEEDS - RECskate and Preschool
We encourage the integration of special
needs children. Due to the volume of children represented
in our programs we require one volunteer support person to
accompany each special needs child. Should you need assistance
in accessing a support person, please contact Kathi Plug.
